Eat Out Review: Decadence – An Artisan Cafe

We were given complimentary meals for this post; all opinions and our own, honest review.

Decadence Artisan Cafe

The first word that comes to mind when I think of Decadence – An Artisan Café:  unique.  I was thrilled when we were contacted by Decadence to come and sample their menu because I had heard a bit about them and was really intrigued.

The idea for this sweet dining spot started when the owners were on vacation in Hawaii, fell in love with Tropical Dreams Ice Cream, and wanted to bring it to Utah County.  Along the way, they discovered a local company – Crio Bru (based in Lindon, Utah) – that was developing the process of roasting cocoa beans for a coffee-alternative drinks.  Decadence Artisan Café opened about a year ago in 2012, featuring Tropical Dreams Ice Cream (available in only a handful of places outside of Hawaii), Crio Bru, sandwiches, baked treats, and desserts.

Decadence Cafe Interior

The café is a smaller location, but has a good amount of seating indoors and out.  They also have a drive-through when you need a quick treat.

Decadence Cafe Tropical Dreams Ice Cream

We started with a few samples of Tropical Dreams Ice Cream (dessert first, right?).  My favorite was the Chocolate Coconut Macadamia Nut.  The Crio Ice Cream was delicious and different, highlighting the roasted cocoa flavor nicely, a great introduction to Crio.  Every flavor we tried was wonderfully rich, creamy, and flavorful.  Definitely a premium ice cream to which you should treat yourself!

There are only a few sandwiches available, but the ones we tried were delicious.  Lunch specials that feature a sandwich, chips, and a drink are available from 11 am – 1 pm for $7.50.

Decadence Cafe Roast Beef Croissant

Roast Beef with Red Onion, Lettuce, Cheese, & Aioli on a Croissant  – Served cold, this is their most popular sandwich and was delicious and fresh.

Decadence Cafe Southwestern Chicken Sandwich

Santa Fe Chicken, Cheese, & Aioli on Focaccia – Served toasted, this was my favorite with a deliciously seasoned chicken with a little kick to it.  I could go for another right now.

Decadence Cafe Ham and Cheese Sandwich (2)

Ham & Cheese on Ciabatta – Served warm & melty, our two youngest diners loved this one.

Decadence Cafe Crio & Espresso (2)

A variety of both hot and cold drinks featuring Crio are served.  We tried the regular Crio Bru and the Espresso, both straight without cream or sugar, just to see what they tasted like.  The roasted flavor came through in both, but the espresso had a richer flavor; neither are chocolaty.  Mr. Diner & I decided we would definitely want cream and sugar next time to sweeten it up a bit.

Decadence Cafe Crio Blend (2)

Many different blends of Crio are available, each with their own flavor notes depending on where the cocoa beans were grown.  For instance, the Cavalla (Ivory Coast) has hints of coconut and cinnamon while the Vega Real (Dominican Republic) has strawberry and citrus notes.  Decadence Café has its own proprietary blend available only at their café.  You can purchase a 2.5 ounce bag to brew at home for $2.95.  Other Crio blends are also available in 12 ounce bags for $10.95 – $14.95.

Of course, during summer, the cold Crio drinks are a must!  We tried two kinds of Frappes, creations blended with ice and topped with whipped cream.

Decadence Cafe Strawberries & Cream Frappe

Strawberries & Cream – This was the kids’ favorite and was really delicious.  It is an off-menu creation that they can whip up for you if you like made with strawberry ice cream.

Decadence Cafe Coco Loco Frappe (2)

Coco Loco – Mr. Diner & I absolutely loved this combination of Crio, coconut, & chocolate ice cream.  If these flavors appeal to you, you MUST order the Coco Loco!

Decadence Cafe Bakery Desserts

Don’t forget the baked goods!  Decadence has everything from muffins to cupcakes, cookies, & orange rolls.  We tried three different cookies that were all good.

Decadence Cafe Cookies (2)

Heath Bar Cookie, Chocolate Coconut Macadamia Nut Cookie, & Lemon & White Chocolate Cookie – All were chewy and delicious, but the Lemon was our favorite, followed by the Heath Bar.

We loved Decadence and are excited to go back and take friends.  Date night specials are available on Fridays and Saturdays.  You can stay up to date with all their specials by following Decadence on Facebook.  They also offer catering.
