Eat Out Review: Black Bear Diner

We ate at a Black Bear Diner in Reno several years ago and I remembered having decently prepared comfort food at a good price, so when we were staying overnight in St. George and noticed another Black Bear Diner near our hotel, we thought it would be an easy choice for dinner.

Black Bear Diner Gazette Menu

Black Bear Diner certainly lived up to its name with plenty of bear décor all over the place.  The menu is printed in a local-style newspaper.  Our server was quite friendly, great with the kids, and stayed on top of our refills.  The food didn’t live up to my memory of it.  It was quite bland and not worth remembering.

As soon as I saw that The Black Bear Diner served breakfast all day, I knew what Mr. Diner would be ordering – biscuits & gravy.  He said it was just okay.  On suggestion of the server, I got the Tri Tip Dinner.  The kids ordered pizzas.

Black Bear Diner Biscuits & Gravy

Bear’s Choice with 2 Biscuits & Gravy, Bacon, & Scrambled Eggs – Biscuits were okay and the gravy was not very flavorful.

Black Bear Diner Tri Tip

Tri-Tip Dinner – Served with mashed potatoes, green beans, salad, & a corn bread muffin.  The sides were okay.  I always like potatoes with the skins mashed in there and the beans were cooked with bacon for some extra flavor.  The tri-tip had great flavor but was tough and chewy.

Black Bear Diner Kids Pizza

Papa Bear’s Pizza ($4.49)– Cheese pizza served with applesauce and broccoli.  They rarely find a pizza they don’t like including this one.

Black Bear Diner Cobbler

We didn’t have room for dessert this time, but their dessert case was filled with good-looking Grandma’s Famous Cobbler ($4.99).
