Giveaway: Shirley J Timeless Grains Cranberry Almond Cereal

Brrrr….I just can’t wait for this weather to warm up!  I’m currently snuggled up in front of my fireplace (yay!  love having it!) and trying to warm up with some fabulous hot dishes:  soup, soup, & more soup; hot cocoa; & hot cereals.  I like a hot cereal with a hint of sweetness, fruit, & nuttiness.  Shirley J Timeless Grains Cranberry Almond Cereal Mix (32 oz. for $11.95), which they recently sent me to try, fits the bill nicely!

Shirley J Timeless Grains Cranberry Almond Cereal

It is loaded with eighteen fabulous grains, nuts, & fruits including oats, barley, rye, flaxseed, dried cranberries, almonds, & cinnamon.  For my first serving, I followed the instructions on the package with one part cereal to three parts water simmering on the stove for 10 minutes.  My house smelled heavenly!  I drizzled my portion with a little honey and that’s all it needed.  Delicious!  You could add any of your own extras including extra fruit, yogurt, milk, brown sugar, and more.  Plus there are a ton of ways you could use this cereal as an ingredient to make other fantastic foods.  To start you off, try these fantastic recipes from their site for Café Johnsonia’s Cranberry Almond Pumpkin Bread or Timeless Grains Cereal Bars.

My new preferred way of preparing the cereal is to cook one part cereal in three parts apple juice or cider (I use my local favorite from The Red Barn) and add in an extra sprinkling of cranberries while it’s cooking, a sprinkle of brown sugar or drizzle of honey, and a wee bit of creamy milk in my bowl.  Winter breakfast deliciousness!
