Eat Out Review: Maui Bowl

When you hear “Maui Bowl”, what do you think of?  If you’ve never been there, you may think teriyaki chicken rice bowl; I guess a lot of people do.  That’s what one employee at Maui Bowl told me – that quite a few people come in expecting to order a rice bowl.  But Maui Bowl doesn’t have a single rice bowl.  They do have an acai bowl, though…and you should try it.

I know you’re asking what an acai bowl is.  I was.  The best way I can describe it is that it’s kind of like a thick smoothie made with acai berries and other fruits, then topped with fresh fruit and other toppings.  Not all bowls have acai in their base, but all of them do feature all organic fruits and use agave or honey as a sweetener instead of sugar.  Maui Bowl

We tried the Maui Bowl, their namesake signature bowl and most popular menu item.  It has a base of acai, strawberries, banana, pineapple juice, & soy milk topped with granola, strawberries, bananas, agave or honey, and coconut.  The little diners and I shared a 24 oz. bowl ($6.67).  It was cold and sweet-tart.  My favorite bites were those with a little sweet crunch from the granola. Twelve ounce bowls are also available, which is a better serving size for an individual.

We also tried the Pounders Smoothie ($3.95) with a blend of banana, strawberries, soy milk, & pineapple juice.  It was a pretty basic smoothie, but delicious.

Maui Bowl Menu (2)

There are a minimal number of wraps on the menu if you feel like something else, but the focus is definitely bowls & smoothies.

Maui Bowl is located right near Gold’s Gym on 9th East in Provo, great for a post-workout healthy snack. Protein add-ins are available for an additional cost. Service was friendly and helpful with any questions we had. It seemed to take a while to blend everything, though, so plan on waiting awhile to get your bowl or smoothie, especially if there is only one employee there, which was the case when we were there.  Hours are not always regular, but they usually open around nine or ten in the morning according to the employee we spoke with.  Wish they were open just a bit earlier; I could see myself eating one of their bowls for breakfast every morning!
