Eat Out Review: JCW’s–The Burger Boys

JCWs Hickory Bacon Burger

There are quite a few places to get a good burger in Utah, and a good shake often goes right along with it.  That’s definitely the case at JCW’s – The Burger Boys, a burger joint that made its first appearance in American Fork and now has locations in Lehi and Provo, as well.

We stopped by the Provo location on a Friday night when other restaurants nearby had long waiting lines out their doors.  JCW’s was busy, but still had room for more customers, so we stepped up to the counter to place our order.

All three kids wanted corn dogs, so we ordered three kids corn dog meals ($4 each) which included fries and a soda.  Amazing Diner upgraded his drink to a root beer float.  Mr. Diner and I split the Hickory Bacon Burger ($5) and a small Strawberry Shake ($4).

At JCW’s, there are a variety of condiments available in addition to the typical ketchup and mustard.  You can load up on fry sauce, hot sauce, malt vinegar, & more before heading to your table.

JCWs Fries

The kids corn dogs are pretty fat and Little Diner could barely take a bite!  They were also pretty hot and fresh.  We’ve been to JCW’s a few times and some of the burgers have been great and others have been just okay.  The Hickory Bacon Burger was the best of the handful I’ve tried.  It has a tangy hickory sauce with a slice of crisp bacon, melted American cheese, and all the other common burger toppings.  The fries the little diners shared with us were hot, crisp on the outside, and soft on the inside, perfectly complimented with their fry sauce!

JCW’s shakes are the super-thick kind that you definitely need a spoon for.  They have lots of flavors and the Strawberry is definitely a good choice, made with real strawberries. A small is a decent size to share, too, especially when it accompanies a meal.  Between the two of us, we didn’t even finish ours.

JCWs Shakes

JCW’s makes great shakes, burgers, & fries, and for those who want something different, they also serve salads, fish & chips, hot sandwiches, wings, and more.  The only downside to JCW’s is the expense.  Most of their burgers cost around $5 and to make them into a combo with fries and a fountain drink is an extra $3.  Eight dollars seems like a lot for a burger, fries, & a drink at a restaurant where there is no table service.  Shakes are also expensive, ranging from $4 – $5.40.  If you use a coupon (frequently in the ValuPages), it makes the cost a little better.

Just so you know, you can order ANY burger on the menu as a kids size; easily knocks $2-$3 off the price, and the burger is still large enough that you get enough to eat. You can also get those in kids meals (though they will be a little more expensive then a regular kids meal). They also have mini shakes (not always listed as available) that are enough for one person, maybe two, especially with the rest of the meal. Another thing you can do is bring in your own topping for a shake; they’ll only charge you for a vanilla/chocolate shake, which is about $2.50. You can also get their $.99 cone and ad a mix in for another $.99, which is the perfect amount of ice cream for one person.

JCWs does seem expensive, but there are things you can do to make it a little cheaper for yourself.

    • JCWs Lover – Thanks for taking the time to share your tips! They are great ones! I’ll definitely be taking advantage of some of them…especially ordering any burger in a kids size! Great idea!
