Eat Out Review: Brick Oven

Picking a good spot to go out to lunch with friends and all our kids is not an easy task.  We wanted a place with good food where someone would serve us, and yet was very kid-friendly ‘cause with 8 kids in all…well, you can imagine.  We picked a spot that had been successful for us before:  Brick Oven.

We arrived on a weekday at around 11:30 am and were seated immediately in a private room that we had all to ourselves with just one long table and a door to contain our little ones (and the noise).  Perfect!

Brick Oven has been a Provo staple since the 1950’s, serving up pizza near BYU’s campus.  They are also known for their Market Room Buffet with soup, salad, and pasta and their root beer.  I always get the root beer!

Brick Oven Salad

This time I ordered the Mini Feast Lunch with a mini Chicken Alfredo pizza, side salad with raspberry vinaigrette, and garlic bread ($8).  Amazing Diner had the kids pepperoni pizza, of course ($5).  Sweet Diner loves salad and got the kids fruit & salad bar with one trip to the salad bar ($4); the difference form the Market Room Buffet is that the Buffet is unlimited and includes soup and pasta.  Little Diner got the chicken nuggets with mandarin oranges ($5).

Brick Oven Chicken Cordon Bleu Pizza

The pizza crust was good, but the combinations of toppings on the Chicken Alfredo pizza was just a little bland.  Little Diner’s chicken nuggets were flavorless with a spongy texture.  Amazing Diner loved his pizza and the salad bar selection for Sweet Diner was excellent.

Our three friends had a custom calzone, the salad bar, and the Chicken Fruit Salad (a special).  The calzone was very good, as was the salad bar, but the Chicken Fruit Salad was disappointing.  I think Brick Oven does calzones and its salad bar the best, and I think that’s what I’ll stick with next time.

As we left, we stopped by the take-out desk to get free balloons for the kids.  Definitely a kid-pleaser!

Brick Oven has take-out and delivery in addition to their dining options and features locations in St. George, Provo, and Layton with a to-go location in Orem, as well.  The Provo location accepts online orders here.  Kids 3-12 can get a free birthday meal within 30 days of their birthday when they sign up for the Birthday Club.
