Olive Garden in Provo is usually means a long wait to get a table…especially on a weekend. But when we stopped by to check on crowds, we were surprised to find only a ten-minute wait. Ahhhhh…Summer in Provo: fewer students and shorter waits for just about everything!
Mr. Diner and I both ordered a Cherry Italian Soda (yes, those Italian Sodas are a weakness of ours). We’ve never had the cherry flavor before & it was yummy. Then came the well-known Olive Garden salad and breadsticks…you know them…the salad tossed with its signature Italian dressing, black olives, red onion and pepperoncini, etc. and the soft breadsticks. Though the breadsticks were hot & fresh, they didn’t seem as soft as usual. They were kind of chewy.
Then our entrees arrived. Mr. Diner ordered the Grilled Shrimp Caprese while I ordered the Shrimp & Crab Tortelli Romana…yes, we were both in the mood for shrimp, I guess! The Caprese was really good with the garlic-butter sauce. Mr. Diner is a shrimp scampi lover, so the garlic-butter and shrimp combination is one that hits the spot for him. I’ve had several good seafood dishes at Olive Garden, but this was one of the best. The tortelli (basically ravioli) was filled with shrimp, crab, and smoked mozzarella and then it is smothered in a wonderful cheese and sun-dried tomato sauce with extra shrimp on top. Loved it!
Two of the little diners ordered pepperoni pizza and the third ordered chicken with pasta. A new option on the kids menu is to choose your own side. Choices are broccoli, grapes, or carrots. French fries are now gone from the menu. The pepperoni pizza was quickly gobbled down, but Sweet Diner just nibbled at her Chicken and Pasta (spaghetti with marinara).
Our server was excellent and very attentive. At the end of our dinner, our leftovers were boxes up in new microwave- & dishwasher-safe containers (love that they’re microwaveable!). I really appreciate it when our server boxes up out leftovers for us instead of doing it myself. And we ended our meal with a little Andes mint…so nice to have a sweet minty bite at the end. Chocolate is a perfect ending to any meal for me.
